Fireboy and Watergirl is the classic two-player puzzle platformer where fire and water must cooperate to escape ancient temples. This complete walkthrough covers all five main temples plus general strategies for every level. Play free in your browser, solo or with a friend.
\n\nFireboy and Watergirl has been a playground and classroom favorite for over a decade, and for good reason: it is one of the few games that is genuinely better with two players sharing one keyboard. One player controls Fireboy, the other controls Watergirl, and together you must guide both characters to their matching exit doors. Every temple introduces new mechanics, from light prisms to slippery ice to moving crystal platforms.
\n\nThe rules that govern every temple:
\n\nThe Forest Temple is the original adventure and the gentlest introduction. The mechanics here are the foundation of everything: levers that move platforms, buttons that open doors, and the basic fire-water-goo triangle.
\n\nKey strategies: always move both characters together rather than finishing with one and backtracking. In levels with shared platforms, position Fireboy on a lever to hold a platform steady while Watergirl crosses, then swap. The green lakes in the later Forest Temple levels look crossable but are not: find the bridge or platform route instead of trying to jump them.
\n\nHardest levels: the seesaw levels, where one character's weight lifts the other. The trick is small, controlled movements: have the lighter progression move first, and never let both characters stand on the same side of a balanced seesaw unless you want a surprise launch.
\n\nThe Light Temple adds light manipulation: colored light beams, prisms that split them, and mirrors that redirect them. Doors in this temple open only when the correct colored light hits their sensor.
\n\nKey strategies: light travels in straight lines until it hits a mirror or prism, so trace the beam path before moving anything. Pushable mirrors are the main puzzle: position them so the beam bends toward the sensor. Remember that characters can block light, which is sometimes the solution (stand in a beam to stop it) and sometimes the problem (stepping into a beam you need).
\n\nHardest levels: the multi-prism chambers where one beam must be split to hit two sensors. Work backwards from the sensors: figure out where the final mirrors must point, then arrange the prisms to feed them. Move characters one at a time in these levels, because a stray body blocking a beam will undo your setup.
\n\nThe Ice Temple's floors are frictionless: characters slide after you release the movement key, and stopping takes planning. This temple is about momentum control.
\n\nKey strategies: tap movement keys instead of holding them on ice. Jump to change direction faster: you have more air control than ground control on slippery surfaces. Use walls as brakes by sliding into them deliberately. For precise diamond collection, approach from the side with the most stopping room, not the shortest path.
\n\nHardest levels: the ice slopes above lava and water pits. Build speed on flat ice first, then commit to the jump with no mid-air hesitation. If a character keeps sliding into hazards, try the other character first: Watergirl and Fireboy have identical physics, but approaching a jump from a different angle often solves it.
\n\nThe Crystal Temple introduces teleportation portals and large moving platforms that carry both characters across huge gaps. Timing becomes the core skill.
\n\nKey strategies: portals come in linked pairs: entering one exits the other, preserving your momentum. Use this to cross gaps that are too wide to jump. For moving platforms, board at the platform's closest approach and ride it; do not try to jump onto a platform mid-cycle. When a level has both portals and platforms, solve the portal route first, since platforms usually just extend a route you have already found.
\n\nHardest levels: the rotating crystal wheels, where you must jump between moving segments. Watch one full rotation before moving so you learn the timing, then commit. Hesitation mid-wheel is what kills runs.
\n\nFireboy and Watergirl 5: Elements mixes mechanics from all previous temples and adds elemental hazards: wind that pushes you, snow, and new liquid types. It is the longest and most varied entry.
\n\nKey strategies: identify which temple's mechanic dominates each level and apply that temple's rules first. Wind zones require leaning into the wind while moving; fight it and you will stall. In combined-mechanic levels, solve one mechanic at a time: clear the light puzzle before attempting the ice slide section, for example. Rushing combined levels is the number one cause of deaths.
\n\nHardest levels: the late-game gauntlets that chain a portal jump into an ice slide into a precision landing. Break them into checkpoints mentally: get to the portal consistently first, then add the next segment. If playing solo, these levels are dramatically easier with a partner, since one player can hold a position while the other moves.

\n\nYes. One player can control both characters by switching between the WASD and arrow keys. It is harder than co-op but completely doable, and many players prefer solo for the puzzle-solving focus.
\n\nFireboy dies in water and Watergirl dies in lava. Green goo kills both characters. Each must also avoid falling into pits, and both need to reach their matching colored exit door.
\n\nThe main series has six entries: Forest Temple, Light Temple, Ice Temple, Crystal Temple, Elements, and the sixth chapter. Each introduces new mechanics while keeping the co-op puzzle formula.
\n\nYes. All the games are free in the browser with no download or signup, and they run well on school Chromebooks, which is why they are classroom favorites.
\n\nStart with the Forest Temple. It teaches every core mechanic gently, and the skills transfer directly to the later temples.
